Astro Earns Plaudits from Insurer for Safe Work Environment
November 29, 2007 (Laconia, NH): The Astro Division was honored by its insurance company for maintaining a safe work environment for its employees. FM Global recognized the division’s continual efforts to eliminate potential risks within the facility and for implementing new safety procedures. The insurer was particularly impressed with Astro’s initiative to upgrade the storage of coolants and lubricants. Recently, Astro specified and installed a new liquid storage cabinet that includes an advanced fire suppression capability. In the event of a fire, the cabinet’s overhead doors close automatically while the fire suppression system extinguishes the flames with Co2. According to Herb Parkhurst, Astro’s Facilities and Environmental Manager, the cabinet was custom-made for the Laconia facility. “The company that designed and installed the unit specializes in fabricating outdoor hazardous materials buildings,” said Parkhurst. “This is the first such cabinet they built for indoor use.” FM Global was so impressed with the solution, they chose to present Astro with a Certificate of Recognition. According to Bob Danielson, the representative from FM Global who presented the award, the insurance underwriter does not hand out such awards all that often. “In my 37 years with the company, this is the very first award I have given out,” said Danielson.
