The HiTech Division Expands Heat Treat Facility, Validates Carburizing Process

January 9, 2007 (Peterborough, NH): The HiTech Division announced recently that it has validated an in-house process for carburizing steel. HiTech began developing the process after adding an additional 11,000 sq. ft. to its facility. The addition houses the new heat treatment facility and materials testing lab. After relocating exiting equipment and installing a new furnace, a team of engineers worked steadily for nine months to validate a repeatable carburizing process. As a result, HiTech has begun working with its customers to design carburized bearing prototypes for new aerospace applications. Full-scale production of bearings made from this highly specialized process could begin sometime this year.
